I'm very tired as of writing this and I don't honestly have a lot to say but I'm making a post anyway because I TOLD MYSELF I WOULD USE THIS MORE IN 2020

I took the Scout to the vet today because she's old and wobbly and they took some blood to test but I mean, she seems okay now. Apparently, she has a minor heart murmur, but the vet was like "honestly you'd be hard pushed to find a terrier her age that doesn't have one" so I guess she's okay, basically, for all her ancient bones.

EDIT: just realised I wrote "THE SCOUT". She is a dog. Her name is Scout. I'm leaving it in because the mental image of putting the TF2 Scout into a cat carrier is the fucking funniest shit in the world

I'm also trying Mort on this back-of-the-scruff applicator Valerian remedy for his crazy old man anxiety, but I put some on yesterday (it's meant to last a week) and he hasn't really shown any changes. Upon looking it up I hear they're sometimes more effective when taken orally but considering his hatred of taking pills I reckon that'd do more harm than good lmao. Anyway, he's fine, just trying to improve his quality of life somewhat.

Did some streaming yesterday and hosted Adam, who is an electronic musician and long-time bestie of mine. We did nothing art or music related and just dicked around getting bullied by my viewers and watching 5 Minute Crafts videos. Absolutely marvellous to see how feral these people become when set loose with a hot glue gun.

Anyway, it was fun and apparently entertaining, so we keep brainstorming other stuff we could do on streams, but it's a little sad knowing we may not have much time since he's potentially moving out of town in late February. As much as I hate being left behind in this shithole, I still feel like this year is gonna be the one where changes start happening, so I'm trying to remind myself of that and stay positive :'^) We'll find ways to do stuff together in future, everything's just... a juggle at the moment, I guess.

Either way, I'll still be streaming, just more solo stuff. Might do a little more later today, we'll see. Working on DEIFY is way easier when I stream it, because knowing people are watching helps me to stay on-task and not get distracted watching YouTube videos or fucking off to play Spyro. Twitch is a pretty good ADD remedy or something???

Speaking of Spyro, I've been sinking a great many hours into the Reignited trilogy lately and writing fic for it and drawing fanart and... everything. Hyperfixation activated. The original trilogy was absolutely my favourite game as a kid and I still have fond memories of playing it in my grandparents' house and marvelling at the idea that finally, finally here was a real existing thing where you got to be a dragon in a fantasy world. The remake really did it more justice than I could have dreamed! Also the dragons are hot.

Mort just sneezed all over my screen and keyboard as of typing this so I'm gonna end it here. Big oof am I right gamers

Edit: also I just remembered to mention I'm trying to work out how to decorate my room behind my streaming area so that there's some interesting stuff in the background. The trouble is, we're trying to move out of this house, so none of it can be shit that needs to be hammered into a wall or anything that will otherwise leave marks or anything like that. I have no shelves, it's just a blank white wall/corner, and I don't have any furniture to put there save for a low TV stand and a beanbag chair that are both already there. If anyone has any suggestions go wild.

Graveyard Keeper
this game is basically Stardew Valley but you're in charge of fixing up a graveyard and also doing autopsies and secretly selling the meat to the local tavern and also sometimes the fancypants local priest visits and sometimes the inquisitor has a witch-burning social with you. i have never played Stardew Valley


Sewer Rave
so, you're attending a rave in a sewer, and there's rats there. mostly this is about exploring all the rooms and reading all the things the rats have to say (or squeak) to you, but there are also jumping puzzles sometimes, and there are five RAT ITEMS to collect and a door to unlock. i haven't finished this yet. i gotta be in the right mindset. the mindset to attend a RAT RAVE IN A SEWER. it's silly and fun and quirky. just be warned there are, sometimes, weird controls that kinda simulate being drunk or high, and loud music, and if you have epilepsy or severe motion sickness this game might not be a good match for you

they're fun i recommend them and i promised myself i'd stop wasting time with games when i should be doing art but ALAS, COGNITIVE SURPLUS THEORY OR WHATEVER

here's some basics for you!

• YES, you can post as long or short as you like, and NO, you don't have to wait until you can craft a big long post. you can use this site similarly to Tumblr if you like. no one's gonna fight you over how casual you are. it's your journal! use it how you feel comfortable!

• YES, you can edit your journal theme's CSS/HTML and customise it how you like

• your READING PAGE is like your dashboard!

• your tags save for later use, so it's wise to use tags on Dreamwidth for actually organising stuff, because you only have 1000 tag slots on a free account

• get familiar with the Privacy tab in your Account Settings! it's massively useful for managing who can see your entries/posts, setting whether IP addresses are logged, from whom you can receive comments and private messages, and whether your journal is to be included in the sitewide search

• Granting Access and using Filters is how you manage who can and can't see your posts. you can set posts as public, as only visible to certain circles of friends, as only visible to one person, etc. and generally customise your journal's access levels post by post. VERY USEFUL if you intend to post private content or if you have sensitive personal issues to discuss that you don't want everyone and their mother to see

• your overall journal AND each individual post have Age Restriction settings! use them wisely!

• Comment Screening can allow only the poster and the commenter to view their thread of replies, and make them invisible to anyone else. if you're a very private person, you could use screening on your personal posts so that if you're discussing something sensitive with someone, to all other eyes it'll look like the journal has no comments on it at all.

• you get 15 free slots for icons that can each be a max of 100x100 pixels in size. you can use these to show what mood you're in when you make a post or comment, and if you're into pretty graphics, there are communities for finding nice icons people have edited into life, and you can totally make your own too. experiment! they're fun! if you need more icon slots there's a subscription system that helps to keep Dreamwidth alive and kicking :^)

the_great_tumblr_purge - a new community that has sprung up specifically to help Tumblr migrants find their feet! go make good use of it!
addme - a friending community where you make a post talking about what you like and inviting others to become mutuals with you so you can talk about your interests
addme_fandom - the same concept, but with fandom stuff!
fandomcalendar - find events and fun activities that people are setting up to take place to do with fandoms you might be into!
metaquotes - a just-for-fun community where you post funny/quirky/interesting quotes from people here on Dreamwidth. it's a good place to browse :^)
questionoftheday - a daily prompt question to inspire you to make a post when you're stuck for what to write! (you don't have to do it every day - it's a great inspiration safety net, though!)
writtoast - this is a community for casual shitposting that i set up a while back because i know people can be worried that they need to make BIG LONG ELOQUENT POSTS here, when that isn't the case at all! it's quiet now, but anyone can feel free to post there about whatever they want and i'm likely to give it a boost if people seem interested

i didn't like any of the prompt lists i found, and i already got halfway through the original inktober challenge prompts last year - so i threw a new one together myself. it's made up of some of my favourite TV Tropes so this ought to be fun!! i'll be doing this as a big messy combo of fanart and OCs. if you're not sure what a trope means, these are all taken straight from the TV Tropes site, so... copy paste that shit :^)
