22 November 2017 12:37 pmhey folks i've been working a lot on my personal site lately and this is my first crossposted blog entry from there. we'll see if it keeps up. it's basically me trying out the indieweb POSSE ethic because it's a great idea and it's about time i took actual control over my corner of the net.
i'm looking up more on the indieweb thing lately and it seems like my cup of tea but there's very little documentation for "gen 5" users so far - which is frustrating for someone like me, who doesn't know a heck about anything more complicated than basic HTML/CSS. indieweb is a project still in its infancy though, and there are already people working on simplifying the information for gens 3+, which is very encouraging!

i had a short conversation with a couple of people on their IRC chat about what counts as a "silo" as opposed to a website you own - to my understanding, a silo was any site that took your data and held it for you, but i thought "that's what a site host does??" so they helpfully explained a silo is the kind of site like facebook or twitter where you can only really easily interact with other people within the same site, and you're extremely limited in what you can do with your own data. a web host like neocities lets you code your site however you want and you can put your own comment systems in to communicate between other websites etc etc. interesting stuff. i'd like to hop on the bandwagon but i have a lot to learn first...
like, for example, the indieweb community has a thing going where if you mention indieweb on twitter they'll all see it. tfw you say something dumb and regret it for the next 3 days lmao. ANYWAY they were cool about it so no harm done i hope haha.
anyway. i love having my own website on neocities but some of my neighbours have pages about how bitter they are about women and trans people so im just like. drink some respect women juice and eat a bagel and chill please. i'm just trying to live over here, My Dudes, My Pals. My Buddies. Mis Amigos. Friends Of The Internet. smh
